How Much Pine Is Enough?

When building or remodeling your lake home or cabin, how much pine is enough? How much is too much? This is an age old question when it comes to building your dream cabin or lake home in the woods. Lake homes and cabins that are log are considered rich and rustic and attract everyone  They are warm, inviting and  they look fantastic. What’s more is pine will increase your cabin or lake home va value.

A lot of people want to live in a log home in the woods. Even if they don’t literally live in the woods, they want to have that feel.

Pine gives the cabin a warm, natural feel, but deciding how much is a personal choice and often a subject that partners disagree on. What we hear from our clients is everything from one extreme to another. Some people like more color and therefore are adamant about not having too much pine on the walls, this can be accomplished by leaving walls and or ceilings to a drywall or bead board paintable finish where color can be displayed giving a different type of warmth to a room or the entire home. Some people just really want that Adirondack all wood look and think that look is the warmest feel, those folks color things up with tapestry, pictures, blankets, rugs etc.… In most instances the partners end up with a compromise.  We need to be clear with something here, the more pine walls, ceilings and floors the higher the cost, so most people are willing to use pine coverings sparingly and in the most important areas that are typically the common usage areas and the bedrooms and baths (private areas) remain drywall walls or ceilings or some type of paintable wood to add the color. There is no right or wrong answer.

Here are some pictures that might help you get a “feel” for what you like.  Some pictures show pine trim only, some, will incorporate a single wall with the rest being drywall, and some show what an all pine room feels like. If your considering building or remodeling a lake home or cabin soon, it is good to have an idea as to what looks you like and where in the home to accomplish that perfect personal feel v=”300″ height=”200″ />
